A lot has been stirred up these past couple days because of a promotions decision to cancel an event due to the sickness of a family member of the promoter. Another promoter in that area said that it was no reason to cancel a show, that "THE SHOW MUST GO ON!" That has been the creed of our business for years and I agree with him. A wrestling show should not be canceled for reasons such as this. And I realize that I will draw alot of heat for this. Oh, well.Only under an extreme circumstance should an event be canceled. Lack of fans, the weather, illness. These are not reasons for canceling a show. Like I stated, wrestling fans are fickle and a promoter does not want to alienate his(or her) fans for any reason. The promoter said they were only pushing it back 2 weeks. Okay, what if the illness is prolonged? Would you postpone it again? And again and again if the person's health does not improve? I'm sure you are calling me an insensitive prick right about now. So be it, but am I right? McMahon can get away with this because he has a product that is in demand by 100s of millions of people WORLDWIDE! But a small promotion cannot afford that luxury. One promoter I worked for a few years ago ran a show while it was snowing and 3" of it on the ground. I asked him if he was going to cancel the show. He said that if he canceled it, people would think that anytime it were to snow the day of a show, they would think that one too would be canceled and not attend. He said even if only 5 people showed up, THE SHOW WOULD GO ON! DWA founder Johnny Diamond has spent most of 2011 either in the hospital or a nursing home. He would not want shows canceled because of this and did not cancel because of that. THE SHOW WENT ON! Unless there is impending doom, you do not cancel a show. Now for reasons unknown to me, the DWA has canceled shows and has went periods of time without putting on shows which was one of my reasons for leaving. I want to work a normal schedule and going 2-3 months without working does not agree with me. Plus I felt I was not treated right and those I work for now knew it. But enough about me.
A note to all promoters: WE ARE IN THIS BUSINESS FOR THE FANS AND THAT IS WHO WE ARE TO THINK ABOUT WHEN DOING SHOWS. AND IF KEEPING YOUR FANS HAPPY IS NOT #1 ON YOUR AGENDA.....LEAVE THE BUSINESS TO THOSE THAT DO! And until next time remember that I am at the top of the food chain while most of you are what my food leaves on the ground. and if you're not down with that, I got 3 words for you
